RAINFOREST ISSUES

There are many issues of concern related to Australias rainforests, with the most important being the declining distribution of our rainforests. This has occurred due to extensive logging practices in the past and the many old growth logging industries that persist today. This has brought about much controversy with issues for logging such as needing wood supplies and more land for the development of houses, buildings, sporting fields, farming land and other infrastucture required for our modern society. Ironically, if we destroy our forests for our modern, technological lifestyle to persist and develop, we are in turn destroying the chances of survival in the future for all living creatures (including humans).

As much as we need trees for living, we also need them for oxygen (which trees supply, as well as cleaning some of our polluted air) to breath, and as a food supply and medicinal source. There are many unknown and unresearched species in rainforests that can be of a great benefit to our society for medicinal uses and other purposes. Therefore it is important to conserve our forests as a number one priority, not only for ourselves, but for the ecosystems as a whole. Many other animals need these forests for their survival - as a food and water source, and to provide shelter within a suitable habitat. If these forests are destroyed, then the fauna that occupy this ecosystem will also become extinct unless they can adapt to the human lifestyle. The diversity of flora and fauna will decrease and our own resources will be extremely limited. Humans are not the only animals or living creatures of this planet, we must share it with many more species.

Another issue covers areas of rainforest remnants and their viability to survive in the long term with their original diversity.
